Space to pause. Support to move forward.

When familiar thoughts or habits keep getting in the way, it can help to have space to explore them with someone who listens. I’m Ben Billett, a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist at Open Arms Therapy in Southend-on-Sea.

I offer calm, personal sessions shaped around what you would like to change. We can talk about whether hypnotherapy could form part of the right support for you, without pressure to commit.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation and focused attention as part of therapeutic work. Sessions can include suggestions and imagery agreed around your goals, alongside a conversation about what has brought you here.

You do not need to arrive with everything worked out. We start by talking, so you can ask questions and understand the approach before deciding whether to go ahead.

The right approach depends on your circumstances. Hypnotherapy is not suitable for everyone, and results vary. We will discuss suitability and realistic expectations before starting.

What happens in a session?

01 · Start with a conversation

A free 10–15 minute introductory call gives you the chance to explain what you are looking for, ask questions and see whether working together feels right.

02 · Explore what matters to you

In your first appointment, we talk about your experiences, the changes you hope to make and any concerns. We agree an approach together.

03 · Work at your pace

Where appropriate and with your agreement, hypnotherapy can be included alongside talking therapy. There is time to explain each step, check how you feel and reflect on the session.

Questions about hypnotherapy

A few answers to help you decide whether hypnotherapy feels right for you.

Do I need to have tried hypnotherapy before?

No prior experience is needed. You are welcome to ask questions before deciding whether you would like to try it.

Will I be asleep?

Hypnotherapy usually involves a relaxed, focused state of attention rather than sleep. You can hear and respond, and you can ask to pause or stop.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no fixed number that suits everyone. We will discuss your goals and review the work together rather than promise a particular outcome or timescale.

Is hypnotherapy suitable for everyone?

No. Please share relevant medical conditions, medication and current treatment before starting. If you have epilepsy, schizophrenia or a history of psychosis, seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional before considering hypnotherapy. It should not replace medical care or prescribed treatment.
