When your mind never seems to switch off
Anxiety does not always look like panic attacks or obvious fear. Sometimes it feels more like constantly analysing conversations, imagining what might go wrong, needing reassurance or finding it difficult to relax even when everything appears to be fine.
You may understand logically that you are worrying too much, yet still find yourself caught in the same thoughts again and again. Therapy can help you understand why these patterns happen and begin changing your relationship with them.

Anxiety and overthinking can show up as:
-
Constantly replaying conversations or decisions
-
Thinking through worst-case scenarios
-
Finding uncertainty difficult
-
Feeling tense, restless or on edge
-
Frequently seeking reassurance
-
Struggling to switch your mind off at night
Why does anxiety keep happening?
Anxiety is essentially a protective response. Your mind is constantly trying to predict danger and keep you safe. The difficulty comes when that alarm system begins reacting too strongly or too frequently.
01
The threat system becomes sensitive
Your mind can begin detecting danger in situations that would previously have felt manageable.
02
Overthinking feels like problem-solving
Worry can create the feeling that if you think about something for long enough, you will eventually find certainty or prevent something bad from happening.
03
Avoidance can reinforce the fear
Avoiding situations may bring short-term relief, but it can unintentionally teach your mind that the situation really was dangerous.
How can therapy help with anxiety and overthinking?
Therapy isn’t about simply telling you to “stop worrying”. It can help you understand what is happening underneath the anxiety, what may be keeping the cycle going and what could help you respond differently.
01
Understand your anxiety
Explore the triggers, thoughts and experiences that may be contributing to how you feel.
02
Break the overthinking cycle
Learn to recognise when useful thinking has turned into repetitive worry, rumination or endless problem-solving.
03
Build confidence around uncertainty
Work towards feeling less dependent on having every answer before you can feel safe or move forward.
04
Respond differently to anxious thoughts
Develop healthier ways of noticing and responding to anxious thoughts rather than getting pulled into every one of them.
Therapy tailored around you
There is no single approach that works for everybody. Your sessions are shaped around you, what you are experiencing and what you would like to change.
01
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy can give us space to explore the thoughts, experiences, beliefs and emotional patterns that may be connected with your anxiety.
02
Hypnotherapy
Where appropriate, hypnotherapy may be used to work with automatic responses, build a greater sense of calm and explore healthier responses to situations that currently trigger anxiety.
03
Practical tools
Where useful, I may introduce strategies and techniques that you can continue using outside of the therapy room.
What happens when you start therapy for anxiety?
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, so it may help to know what the process looks like. We’ll take things at a pace that feels manageable and focus on what is most useful for you.
01
Understand what's been happening
We’ll talk about what your anxiety looks like, when it tends to appear and how it is affecting your day-to-day life.
02
Identify the patterns
Together we can begin recognising the triggers, thoughts, behaviours and responses that may be keeping the anxiety going.
03
Work towards change
Using therapy tailored around you, we’ll begin working with patterns that are no longer helping you.
04
Build confidence moving forward
The aim is to help you understand yourself better and develop skills and confidence you can continue using outside therapy.
Sessions are around 60 minutes and are available in person, online and by phone.
