When things no longer feel like you

Low mood can mean more than feeling sad. You may feel numb, lose interest in things you once enjoyed or find everyday tasks take more effort. Some people keep going physically while feeling disconnected inside.

Periods of low mood and depression are not always the same. If low mood lasts for two weeks or more, or is affecting your daily life, it may be time to talk. You do not need to decide on a label before asking for support.

Therapy offers time to explore your experience and what has been happening in your life. We can discuss whether this service feels appropriate for your needs and what other support may help.

What happens in therapy for low mood?

01 · A first conversation

A free 10–15 minute intro call gives you space to ask questions and share what has been difficult, without pressure to book.

02 · Make sense of your experience

We explore your feelings, relationships and day-to-day life. You do not need to tell your whole story at once.

03 · Find manageable next steps

Together we consider what support and changes feel possible, reviewing the work and whether you need additional care.

Support at a pace that feels manageable

When your energy is low, being told to think positively or try harder can feel unhelpful. Our conversations make room for how things actually feel, without expecting you to put a brighter face on them.

We might explore what has changed, how you speak to yourself and what makes connection or daily routines difficult. Any steps we discuss can be shaped around your circumstances and current capacity.

Talking therapy may be one part of a wider support plan. Your GP can discuss symptoms and treatment options, especially if your mood is persistent or worsening.

FAQ

Questions about therapy for low mood

A few answers about low mood and depression support in Southend.

Do I need a diagnosis before getting in touch?

No. You can ask for support because you feel low, disconnected or unlike yourself. We can discuss whether working together is appropriate. Your GP can help assess persistent or worsening symptoms.

What if I cannot explain how I feel?

You do not need a clear explanation or the right words. We can begin with what you notice in everyday life, take pauses and explore things at a pace that feels manageable.

Can therapy sit alongside GP care?

It may form part of a wider support plan. Tell me about other care you receive so we can discuss suitability. Questions about medication or changes to treatment should be discussed with your prescriber.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your needs and circumstances. We agree an initial focus and review the work together, including whether you would benefit from other support. There is no fixed timetable or guaranteed outcome.
